This week Eric Anderson, Clearwave Chief Operating Officer, AKA The Solutions Guy, discusses everything you need to know about tablets and self-service registration.

Transcript

Eric: At Clearwave, we often get asked if we provide tablets for self-service registration and the answer is we don't. But today I wanted to ask Donnie Brasco to come share his thoughts. Donnie, what do you think we should tell customers when they ask us if we provide tablets for self-service registration?

Donnie Brasco: Forget about it.

Eric: Interesting. But don't you think we should mention that tablets rely on battery power and often run out of juice at the worst possible time like during a registration?

Donnie: Forget about it.

Eric: I feel like we should at least mention that tablets require WiFi which is notoriously unreliable.

Donnie: Forget about it.

Eric: I see your point. But I feel like we should tell customers that every night their staff members are gonna have to gather up all these tablets, put them on charging stations, and store them.

Donnie: Forget about it.

Eric: I appreciate that you're a man of few words, but I feel like we need to mention that tablets solve zero workflow problems. In fact, they make things worse. Patients have to wait in line twice. Once to pick up the tablet and a second time to hand it back in and your staff is involved in every single registration.

Donnie: Forget about it.

Eric: Well, Donnie, I think I see where you're coming from, but I just think we should mention that tablets get filthy when they're out in the waiting room and nobody likes a filthy tablet.

Donnie: Forget about it.

Eric: Well, thank you Donnie for your insight. If you're wondering whether tablets or kiosks are the right solution for you, great news is you don't have to choose. Your patients can use our kiosk for self-service check-in or they can use their very own cellphone, leveraging our fantastic mobile solution. Tablets? Forget about it.
