Red Flag Rules & HITECH Act

As a way to help protect consumers from identity theft, the FTC created Red Flag Rules, which require any organization that extends credit to its customers to develop and implement written identity theft prevention and detection programs. Since many healthcare organizations bill patients after services have been rendered, the FTC classifies those organizations as a “creditor” and are subject to adhere to the Red Flag Rules requirements.

Clearwave’s universal healthcare kiosk helps your organization to address the Red Flag Rule requirements by verifying a patient’s identity through a self check-in process. Before a patient can fully check-in, they are asked to either confirm or enter demographic data, as well as to provide a valid identification card, which Clearwave can verify through its comprehensive network of payers. Clearwave is developing additional authentication processes that will be delivered in 2010.

HITECH Act 2009
Clearwave helps your organization to meet HITECH Act requirements by allowing you to record patient demographic data for all of your patients as well as run electronic eligibility checks for more than 95% of your insured patients at the point of registration. Additionally, Clearwave allows your organization to easily integrate your Practice Management System or Hospital Information System with an electronic health record.
